Christine Romani-Ruby, PT, MPT, ATC, PMA® CPT

 Christine is an experienced Pilates professional and international presenter with a strong background in physical therapy and fitness. She is the founder and director of PHI Pilates and PHI Pilates Studio based in Pittsburgh, PA, an associate professor at California University of Pennsylvania, and a member of the faculty at the Ballet Academy of Pittsburgh. Gold certified in Pilates through the PMA and serving on the PMA certification commission, she has contributed to the Pilates community with the publication of six books, 13 DVD’s, and multiple articles, podcasts and international workshops and presentations. Chrissy holds a masters degree in physical therapy from Slippery Rock University and has practiced as an orthopedic and sports PT for 20 years.  She holds bachelor’s degrees in both exercise science and natural science and a certificate in athletic training. Presently she is a doctoral candidate in education at Indiana University of PA.

Christine has incorporated Pilates into her practice as a physical therapist for over 13 years and she is known by teachers around the world for unselfishly sharing her ideas and techniques for the benefits of clients and patients. Her 4,000 square foot Pilates studio in Pittsburgh is well known to clients for rehabilitation and conditioning and to teachers for continuing education.














Craig Ruby PT, DEd, MPT

Dr. Craig Ruby is the Program Director for the physical therapy program at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling West Virginia. He holds a BS in Biology, a Master of Physical Therapy and a doctorate in Education.   Before entering academia, Craig practiced as a physical therapist for 16 years, specializing in orthopedics.  He completed his training in Pilates in 2002 and is a master teacher for PHI Pilates.  He has presented on the topic of Pilates at national and international conferences including the American Physical Therapy Association’s Combined Sections Meeting, The National Athletic Training Association’s Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association’s Annual Conference.  Dr. Ruby has presented on the topics of service learning, international clinical education and healthcare disparities for persons with disabilities with over twenty presentations at national and international conferences over the past five years.  He has also co-authored two book chapters on service learning.























Ben Reuter PhD, CSCS*D, ATC, PMA® CPT

Ben is an Associate Professor in the Department of the Exercise Science and Sport Studies at California University of Pennsylvania. He earned his doctorate in Exercise Physiology from Auburn, University, and his masters, with an emphasis in Athletic Training, from Old Dominion University. Ben is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, with Distinction, and is an Associate Editor for the Strength and Conditioning Journal, a journal of the NSCA. He was originally introduced to Pilates as a method to treat an athletic injury. The sucess of the Pilates regimen, along with his interests in injury prevention and performance enhancement for endurance athletes, has led to his continuing involvement and education with Pilates.  In 2007 he successfully passed the Pilates Method Alliance certification exam, and is currently certified by the PMA. Ben has presented for a number of professional organizations regionally, nationally and internationally, including a trip to China to present for the NSCA in the summer of 2009.






















Lauren Nahas PT, MPT

Lauren is a graduate of Duquesne University where she obtained a Masters of Physical Therapy degree in August of 2004. She is a licensed physical therapist and home care therapist, as well as the Pilates-based physical therapy and wellness program coordinator at Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy Associates, Inc. in Mt. Lebanon, PA. Lauren enjoys utilizing Pilates in the clinic by incorporating the principles into her physical therapy rehabilitation programs. She also has an extensive ballet background which further enhances her knowledge of body movement and awareness. Lauren is a certified Pilates instructor and has received all her training through PHI Pilates.































Heather Gibson RN, ATC

Heather has been a Master Teacher at PHI Pilates for 10 years.   Her well rounded fitness and healthcare experience includes a BS in Athletic Training and a BS in Exercise Physiology.  She has eight years of physical therapy rehabilitation experience incorporating Pilates based treatment of injuries, personal training sessions, and group instruction.  To further expand her passion for well being, she obtained her RN degree and incorporates wellness and Pilates to the patients that she sees on a daily basis.  She has worked with a wide age range of individuals with a focus on seniors, Pre/Post Natal, and post rehab clients. She is employed by UPMC.





















Robyn Naymick-White

Prior to starting her fitness career in 1984, Robyn was an athlete excelling in a variety of areas. She was a member of her school track and softball teams, skated competitively, and participated in various intramural sports. In the earlier years of her fitness career, she taught group exercise classes for the University of the Pacific (UOP) and other fitness establishments in the Sacaramento Area. She studied dance at the Stockton Ballet Company and also at California State University (CSUS). Subsequently she became a certified group exercise and personal fitness instructor. In 1996 she established Time To Be Fit, Inc.(TTBF) focusing on Pilates but include Group Exercise, Yoga, and Personal Training. Today TTBF is a well recognized and respected Pilates Studio in Sacramento. Robyn has been a master teacher for Phi Pilates for 9 years.










Janice Smith, PMA® CPT

Janice is a fellow of the Imperial Society of teachers of Dance in London, England and was awarded the Maestro Cecchetti Final Diploma, the highest classical ballet qualification obtainable. Presently and for the past 30 years she has been the co-chair of the Dance Department at the School of Fine Arts, Willoughby Ohio. Certified in Pilates by Core Dynamics, she owns and operates her own Pilates personal training studio and teaches group classes in fitness facilities in her area. She is an AFAA, ACE certified personal trainer, certified Yogafit, Resist-a-Ball instructor, has experience owning and operating a retail dance store. She is a master level presenter for PHI Pilates. Jan has been a Master Teacher for PHI Pilates for 11 plus years.  She is a PMA® CPT.






















Pam Paley, PMA® CPT

Pam has a well rounded history including experience in the healthcare field, experience as a health and physical education teacher, a director of a 100,000 square foot hospital based health and wellness center and a director of a private Pilates studio. She holds numerous certifications including AFAA, Spin, Kick box, Rebounding, Stability Ball and numerous Les Mills(BTS) certifications (BODYPUMP, BODYSTEP, BODY FLOW, RPM,) . Pam’s passion for Pilates started shortly after being diagnosed with Cancer, and due to the many surgeries from the cancer, she lost much of her range of motion. She could not continue to run marathons and instead started taking Pilates classes and it made such a difference as she regained much of the lost mobility that she went on to study Pilates. Pam is fully trained through PHI Pilates, and Physical Mind Institute, and has continued her passion for learning in the Ron Fletcher School of Study. She is a PMA certified Pilates Instructor.













Patrizia Tombesi, PMA® CPT

Patrizia was born in Rome, Italy where she studied and graduated at the National Academy of Dance in Rome. After moving to New York she was a recipient of Merce Cunningham dance school scholarship in the Professional Training Program. She performed with several dance company in New York and toured internationally. Parallel to her artistic achievement, Patrizia has always been interested in movement and education. She has been a resident artist in public schools teaching creative movement workshops as well as working as a Personal Trainer and Pilates instructor. She holds two national certifications, ACE and NASM and five work specific including RNT, ISSA post rehab, IMX, and Phi Pilates. Pilates has always been part of her life and as a former gymnast and a dancer competing and touring internationally, she has been teaching for the past twenty years presenting in Italy as well as Australia. Patrizia is a PMA certified Pilates Instructor.






















Stephanie Wilkins, MA, PMA® CPT

Stephanie Wilkins received her Masters of Fine Arts in Dance and Performance from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in New York City, where she first began her Pilates training with Pilates elder, Kathy Grant. After dancing professionally for over 10 years, she began her intense Pilates study and teacher training with Ragan Pilates in New York. Stephanie has returned to her hometown of Columbia, SC to open KayLynn Pilates, in partnership with her mother, Vicki Beatty.  She is a PMA Certified Pilates Instructor.





















Susan Holewinski, PMA® CPT

Susan is a senior trainer at Mindful Movement Studio in Indianapolis, Indiana. She has a B.S. in biology from Alma College (Michigan) and is a licensed secondary biology/chemistry teacher. In the fitness industry since 1992, Susan has worked with people of all ages and abilities ranging from preschoolers to track and field athletes. She has certifications from AFAA, Johnny G Spinning, PHI Pilates and the Physical Mind Institute. She is a certified PMA instructor.



 









Elizabeth Morrissey, M.Ed., PMA® CPT

Elizabeth is the owner of Elite Fitness Management, a health and fitness company in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She has over 16 years of personal training experience and more than 25 years of exercise training in a variety of fitness areas. She is a certified Pilates instructor with the PhysicalMind Institute. She combines her professional health education background, experience and personal knowledge in reating a holistic approach to fitness. In addition, she is a health and fitness instructor with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), and holds certifications with the American Council on Exercise (ACE) as a personal fitness trainer, Madd Dog Athletics as a spinning instructor and YogaFit, as a yoga instructor.  She is a PMA Certified Pilates Instructor. Elizabeth has a M. Ed. in Health Education from Pennsylvania State University and a B.S. in Business from the University of Pittsburgh.











Ariel Hernandez, PMA® CPT

Ariel is the owner and director of Fusion Fitness. Born in South Miami Beach, Florida Ariel has been in the fitness industry for over 15 years. As soon as he was old enough, Ariel became a personal trainer and within 2 years he was running the personal training and aerobic dance programs of several gyms in Miami. With experience in dance and gymnastics and over 10 years tenure as a Master Pilates Teacher, Ariel has expanded his training methods to include rehabilitation and fitness trends. His certifications include step, stick, yoga, spinning, powerflex, power pump, jump rope, box board, kickboxing, funk, hip hop, strip aerobics, body sculpting, and interval training. Ariel has been a Master Teacher for PHI Pilates for 7 years and is PMA certified.
















Stephanie Smith, PT, MSPT

Stephanie is a graduate of the University of California/San Francisco State joint program in physical therapy with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy. She received her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of California, Davis. Stephanie is trained in Pilates by PHI Pilates and joined PHI Pilates as a master teacher. She works at Kevin Snider Physical Therapy in Anderson, CA and her practice focuses on movement based rehabilitation. She incorporates Pilates into her treatment of a varied outpatient population. She is dedicated to expanding her knowledge and abilities to help the people in her community recover function and enhance their well-being.


















Shannon Kidwell

Shannon is the manager and co-owner of Fusion Fitness in Lake Mary, FL. Her enthusiasm for the fitness industry comes from a life-long struggle with weight and genetics. Topping out at 200 pounds 10 years ago, Shannon has been working hard to maintain her healthy and fit lifestyle hoping to encourage others to do the same. Shannon is fully trained in Pilates by PHI Pilates and has been a master teacher for one year. She is also certified as a personal trainer and nutrition counselor.













 












Dawn Keating, PMA® CPT

In 1991, Dawn graduated from The University of Texas at Austin with a BA in Biology.  She pursued a career in Retail Management until 2001, when she left her district manager position to stay at home with her three children.  While working, she had been a Pilates client for a year and was inspired to learn more.  Dawn became a Comprehensively Certified Pilates Instructor through PHI Pilates as well as a PMA Certified Pilates Instructor.  She has been teaching Pilates in The Woodlands, Texas since 2004 and now co-owns Healthy Life Unlimited Pilates and Personal Training Studio with her husband, Michael Keating.  She is also a Master Trainer for PHI Pilates.
















 

























Shoji Kuwabara MS, ATC, PES, PMA® CPT

Shoji is the PHI Pilates Asia Bloc Director and the PHI Pilates Japan Director, Visiting Fellow at Kansai Electric Power Hospital, and CEO of CODE7 Co., Ltd.  He has worked with the 2003 Chicago White Sox Minor League as an Athletic Trainer at Bristol White Sox University.  He is a 2003 graduate of Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in their Athletic Training Specialization graduate program and a 2008 graduate of California University of Pennsylvania Graduate School in their Performance Enhancement & Injury Prevention program.  He holds certifications with Pilates Method Alliance (PMA) as a Certified Pilates Teacher (1st in Japan), PHI Pilates Master Instructor, Certified Athletic Trainer and a Performance Enhancement Specialist.










































Juan Carlos Vargas, BS in Civil Engineering, MBA, PMA® CPT

Juan Carlos is a Civil Engineer with an MBA from Caracas, Venezuela who after working as a consulting engineer in places such as Houston, TX, Dominican Republic and Venezuela decided to quit his formal job and opened the Exercise Center in 2005, as co-owner, in Santiago city, Dominican Republic.  He is fully certified by PHI Pilates and is the first Venezuelan certified by the PMA. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer (N.A.S.M.), Corrective Exercise Specialist (N.A.S.M.), and a Yoga, Spinning and Rowing instructor.



















 






Ranses Ho, IE, MBA, Quality, PMA® CPT

Ranses is an Industrial Engineer, with a Master in Business Administration and a major in Quality Control who paid for his tuition as a professional dancer, choreographer, personal trainer, Spinning and rowing instructor.  After 13 years of work in the industrial world, Pilates was introduced to his life and he decided to quit his job and open the Exercise Center in 2005, as co-owner, in Santiago city, Dominican Republic.  Ransés is fully certified by PHI Pilates and is a Master Trainer for PHI Pilates, and is the first Dominican certified by the PMA. He is also a Certified Personal Trainer (N.A.S.M.) and Corrective Exercise Specialist (N.A.S.M.)









 













Cindi Smith PTA, PMA® CPT

Cindi is a licensed PTA at Advanced Rehab Services in Lake Charles, LA where she has been working since receiving her Associate of Applied Science degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant in 1996. She attended the University of Southern Mississippi from 1976 to 1979 where she studied dance and learned about the importance of Joe Pilates work with dancers recovering from injuries.  She discovered her career niche/passion in 2003 after attending a Pilates course to learn the basic concepts.  From there, she researched all current Pilates programs for a PT based concept and fortunately met Christine Romani-Ruby PT, MPT, ATC.  She advanced her Pilates studies/education under the tutelage of PHI Pilates and completed the program and then became a PMA certified instructor in 2009.  Cindi feels the uniqueness of the PHI program, as opposed to other programs, is the research application of Pilates principles to individual pathologies/diagnoses seen in the physical therapy environment.  Cindi incorporates PHI Pilates methods into day-to-day physical therapy care.
